Definition: AC3D (Inivis) is a 3D modeling application that is used in a number of industries. AC3D does not feature its own renderer, but can generate output files for both RenderMan and POV-Ray among others.

Adobe Captivate


Definition: Adobe Captivate builds and edits interactive software demonstrations, simulations, podcasts, screencasts, games, program demos and lessons. For software demos, it can either record in real time or use an event-based screen capture that snaps a sequence of still images and then builds mouse movement simulations to create the appearance of a running program.



Adobe ColdFusion


Definition:Adobe ColdFusion application server and software enables developers to rapidly build, deploy, and maintain robust Internet applications for the enterprise. One of the distinguishing feature is its associated scripting language, ColdFusion Markup Language (CFML), which compares to the scripting components of ASP, JSP, and PHP in purpose and features, but more closely resembles HTML in syntax.

Definition: Adobe Contribute is a WYSIWYG web authoring and content management application that is designed to facilitate collaborative editing of web sites, including workflow management. Adobe claims that the software allows users to edit web pages without knowing HTML and to embed multimedia components. Contribute consists of two components, a client for editing, and a "publishing server" that Adobe describes as "complementary".

Definition: Adobe Dreamweaver is a web development application for both Mac and Windows operating systems. Recent versions have incorporated support for web technologies such as CSS, JavaScript, and various server-side scripting languages and frameworks including ASP, ColdFusion, and PHP.



Adobe Encore


Definition: Adobe Encore is a DVD authoring software tool targeted at professional video producers. Video and audio resources may be used in their current format for development, allowing the user to transcode them to MPEG-2 video and Dolby Digital audio upon project completion. DVD menus can be created and edited in Adobe Photoshop using special layering techniques.



Adobe Fireworks


Definition: Adobe Fireworks is a bitmap and vector graphics editor. It is aimed at web designers (with features such as: slices, the ability to add hotspots etc.) for rapidly creating website prototypes and application interfaces. It is designed to integrate easily with other former Macromedia products, such as Dreamweaver and Flash.



Adobe Flash


Definition: Adobe Flash is a multimedia platform used to add animation, video, and interactivity to Web pages. Flash is frequently used for advertisements and games. More recently, it has been positioned as a tool for "Rich Internet Applications" ("RIAs"). Flash manipulates vector and raster graphics to provide animation of text, drawings, and still images. It supports bidirectional streaming of audio and video, and it can capture user input via mouse, keyboard, microphone, and camera. Flash contains an Object-oriented language called ActionScript. Flash content may be displayed on various computer systems and devices, using Adobe Flash Player, which is available free for common Web browsers, some mobile phones and a few other electronic devices (using Flash Lite).

Definition: Adobe Flash Builder is an integrated development environment (IDE) built on the Eclipse platform meant for developing rich Internet applications (RIAs) and cross-platform desktop applications, particularly for the Adobe Flash platform.WYSIWYG Editor: In addition to the built-in code editors for MXML and ActionScript, Flash Builder supports a WYSIWYG editor for modifying MXML applications and components.Debugger: Flash Builder includes an integrated interactive debugger allowing developers to step through code execution while inspecting variables and watching expressions.



Adobe Flex


Definition: Adobe Flex is a software development kit (SDK) for the development and deployment of cross-platform rich Internet applications based on the Adobe Flash platform. Flex applications can be written using Adobe Flash Builder or by using the freely available Flex compiler from Adobe.



Adobe Framemaker


Definition: Adobe FrameMaker is a document processor for the production and manipulation of large structured documents. Although FrameMaker has evolved slowly, it maintains a strong following among professional technical writers. FrameMaker has more or less kept up with the times in supporting new standards such as XML and WebDAV, but at heart it is a proprietary single-desktop-oriented system based on a binary file format. While problems exist in FrameMaker's XML implementation, the application supports authoring in an XML-based workflow.



Adobe (Macromedia) FreeHand


Definition: Adobe FreeHand is a very flexible computer application for creating two-dimensional vector graphics (use of geometrical primitives such as points, lines, curves, and polygons to represent images, also known as geometric modeling), oriented to the professional desktop publishing market. Development has been discontinued but it is still available in versions for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X.



Adobe Illustrator


Definition: Adobe Illustrator is a top tier vector graphics editor. CS2 includes 3-dimensional capabilities allowing users to extrude or revolve shapes to create simple 3D objects. CS4 allows the ability to create multiple artboards buts is not equal to the true multiple page capability of Freehand. CS5 has multiple enhancements to existing functionality,and features a comprehensive update to strokes, referred to by Adobe as "Beautiful Strokes".



Adobe InCopy


Definition: Adobe InCopy is a professional word processing software. InCopy is primarily used to publish newspapers and magazines. InCopy allows the editor to write, edit, and design (style, font, etc.) the publishable copy. The software includes standard word processing features such as "spell check", "track changes", and "word count", etc., and has preview viewing modes for fitting copy to the text layout, allowing the editor to visually ascertain every design element fits in the publication layout format used. InCopy is a direct competitor to Quark CopyDesk.



Adobe InDesign


Definition: Adobe InDesign is used to create posters, flyers, brochures, magazines and books. Designers and graphics production artists are the principal users, creating and laying out periodical publications, posters, and print media. InDesign is a direct competitor to QuarkXPress.



Adobe Lightroom


Definition: Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is designed to assist professional photographers in managing thousands of digital images and doing post production work. It is not a file browser like Adobe Bridge, but rather an image management application database which helps in viewing, editing, and managing digital photos.



Adobe LiveCycle


Definition: Adobe LiveCycle Enterprise Suite (ES2) is a SOA Java EE-based server software product used to build applications that automate a broad range of business processes for enterprises and government agencies. It combines technologies for data capture, information assurance, document output, content services, and process management to deliver solutions such as account opening, services and benefits enrollment, correspondence management, request for proposal processes, and other manual based workflows. LiveCycle ES2 incorporates PDF (Portable Document Format) technology with Flex (Flash-based UI technology) to allow developers to create human interactive applications.

Definition: Adobe Photoshop is a graphics editing program. Adobe Photoshop CS5 is the 12th major release of Adobe Photoshop. There are two versions of Photoshop: Basic and Extended, with Extended having extra features available. Photoshop CS5 reveals new technologies which include three dimensional brushes and warping tools. Adobe CS5 makes strong use of CUDA technology on Nvidia graphics cards



Adobe Premiere Pro


Adobe Premiere Pro is a professional, real-time, timeline based video editing software application. Adobe Premiere comes bundled with Adobe Encore and Adobe OnLocation. Premiere Pro supports many video editing cards and plug-ins for accelerated processing, additional file format support, and video/audio effects. Premiere Pro CS3 is available for both Windows and Mac OS (only Intel-based Macs are supported), making it one of the few cross-platform NLEs available.



Adobe Soundbooth


Adobe Soundbooth is a digital audio editor aimed at creative professionals who do not specialize in audio or people who need a simple editing program and do not require the full features of Adobe Audition. Due to Intel-specific code, Adobe has stated that the Mac OS X version will only be available for machines using Intel processors.

Apple Final Cut Pro


Definition: Final Cut Pro ( a professional non-linear editing software application) logs and captures video onto a hard drive (internal or external), where it can be edited and processed. Final Cut Pro will only run on Mac personal computers running Mac OS X version 10.5.6 or later and using Intel processors. Final Cut Pro has developed a large and expanding user base including many independent filmmakers. Apple iWork Keynote


Definition: Keynote is an application used to create and play presentations. Its features are comparable to those of Microsoft PowerPoint, though Keynote contains several unique features which differ from similar applications. Keynote, like Pages and Numbers, integrates with the iLife application suite. Users can drag and drop media from iMovie, iTunes, iPhoto and Aperture directly into Keynote presentations using the Media Browser. Keynote contains a number of templates, transitions, and effects. Magic Move allows users to apply simple transitions to automatically animate images and text that are repeated on consecutive slides.

Definition: Numbers is a spreadsheet application that lets users organize data into tables, perform calculations with formulas, and create charts and graphs using data entered into the spreadsheet. Numbers, however, differs from other spreadsheet applications in that it allows users to create multiple tables in a single document on a flexible canvas. Many prebuilt templates, including ones designed for personal finance, educational, and business use, are included.

Autodesk 3DS Maya


Definition: Maya is a node-based 3D software suite.
